Our summer camp starts in just over a week, and we are beyond excited to see you all come along and spend the next month or so with you!
Hopefully through our camps, we have alleviated some stress and saved you some money with our sessions, but we know how expensive the summer half term can be. So... we have come up with some low cost, summer friendly activities to get up to at home!
Crafting with nature!
Why not get outside and gather your arts and crafts equipment from the back garden? There are so many different things you can do, such as:
Painting pebbles and stones!
Seashell art! We personally love thrifting or up-scaling old frames and mirrors and sticking the seashells around to give it that rustic, homemade vibe!
Nature jewellery! All it takes is some leaves and petals, alongside sellotape. For some design ideas, check out what we created at our term time sessions.
Sticking to the fashion aspect, why not go old school and create some flower crowns?
Water play!
There are so many different activities you can do with water play for those with sensory needs. Filling up a paddling pool or even a large bowl of water can lead to endless fun. Visit bargain home stores and invest in things like jelly solution and expanding beads to add that extra bit of colour!
However, make sure you are checking your local hosepipe regulations!
Libraries aren't just for books!
Utilising local libraries is a great way to help your community, the planet and your wallet by borrowing items. It’s not just for reading either! Most libraries rent out DVDs, which is a great, free alternative to expensive streaming platforms.
Free group readings for young people, community crafts and quiet SEN hours may also be available… so make sure to check your local libraries bulletin!
Get growing and sowing!
Whilst the weather is sunny, why not try to grow something in your back garden? Not only can you eat your home grown fruit and vegetables, but it can provide a fantastic sense of achievement watching them grow each day.
Strawberries are considered as the easiest fruits to grow at home, so why not give it a go?
Chalk games!
We understand that sometimes parks can get super busy and overwhelming during the summer months, so why not bring the playground to your back garden? Chalk is a very cheap way to have fun via lots of different kinds of games such as hop scotch, twister, and even just drawing!
DIY popsicles and cold treats!
Why not create some popsicles and cold treats at home? Cutting up fruit and freezing juice and squash are great, healthier options to ice creams, and can cut some costs too!
Mud painting!
It can be a messy one, but it doesn't have to be! Diluting soil or mud in water and using it as paint with a brush is a cheaper, more sustainable option to get crafty this summer.
Do you have any more ideas or low cost activities you like to do at home during summer? Let us know in the comments!
